Ryan has covered the NFL for over 17 years, with a focus in pro football history, statistics, film-study and player-interviews. His work has been featured on NFL.com, NYTimes.com, ESPN and NFL Network. He has interviewed over 30 NFL players including Hall of Famers: Brett Favre, Terrell Owens, Kurt Warner, Fran Tarkenton and former league MVPs Matt Ryan, Roman Gabriel and Ken Anderson.

Ryan is a Contributing Writer and Analyst for the Pro Football Hall of Fame and a BCT Statistician for the Denver Broncos Flagship (KOA).

From 2008-2014, Ryan covered the NFL as a writer for Bleacher Report. He provided statistical analysis for the original Arena Football League (AFL) in his AFL Legends Spotlight series. He has been a guest-contributor to SB Nation's Mile High Report, The Falcoholic, Field Gulls, Revenge of the Birds and Canal St. Chronicles.

In the Indoor Football League (IFL), Ryan served as a Writer and Insider for the Billings Wolves Front Office from 2015-2016. With the Quad City Steamwheelers, Ryan served as a Defensive Assistant Coach on the 2022 team that won the IFL Eastern Conference Championship and was named IFL Franchise of the Year. In addition to his coaching duties, Ryan served as the team's Director of Player Personnel and the Co-Director of Media Operations in 2023 when the team was named the IFL's Social Media Team of the Year.

In 2023, Ryan served the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the Canadian Football League (CFL) as a Writer, producing post-game reports and historical retrospectives.
